What is the ideal minimum width and length for a functional concrete lap pool?

For a comfortable single-swimmer lap lane, the ideal minimum width is between 2.0 to 2.5 meters, though we can engineer custom shells even narrower if your side boundary requires it. For a proper swimming cadence, we recommend a minimum length of 10 to 12 meters, while 15 to 18 meters is ideal for serious fitness training. Because we build entirely out of concrete, we can customize these dimensions to the exact millimeter to fit your property perfectly.

Can a lap pool incorporate a shallow steps area or a spa without ruining the swimming lane?

Yes, absolutely. This is one of the greatest benefits of custom concrete design. We can engineer an “offset step” or a recessed “baja shelf” out of the main swimming line. This means you can have a wide, comfortable entry point, an integrated spa, or a shallow lounging ledge for children at one end of the pool while leaving a perfectly straight, unobstructed 2-meter wide channel completely clear for lap swimming.

How do you handle heating for such a long volume of water?

Because lap pools are long and narrow, they have a high surface-area-to-volume ratio, making efficient heating critical. We install premium, high-efficiency inverter heat pumps or automated gas heaters that rapidly bring the water to an optimal athletic temperature (usually around 25°C to 27°C). We also design the pool to easily accommodate discreet, automated underground pool blanket rollers, which trap heat and significantly cut down running costs.

Is it possible to build a lap pool directly against a boundary fence or house wall?

Yes. This is a massive engineering advantage of concrete over fiberglass. Through custom structural underpinning and specialized zone-of-influence engineering, we can design the concrete pool shell to bear adjacent structural weight. This allows us to pour the pool walls right alongside boundary fences or tight against the structural footings of your home, turning narrow side-passages into high-end architectural features.
